THE SCOUTING TRAIL - RANGER BENGALI
I am Abdul mumin Iddriss an intake of 2021 wood badge. I will like to share my challenges and success I faced after the camp and during my second phase of Wood badge.
THE CHALLENGES
Being in a society where majority of youth are being polluted about scouting, strategies and tactics are to be implemented to overcome the negative impression of scouting as a whole. Most of the locals still have the mind set of the Gold coast scouting, because most of the parents don’t know how scouting have shifted positively to reach our ways of life in this modern world.
We then became the evangelist of scouting where we have to preach and explain into details to shave that negative impression of scouting they have experience in the past. We move from communities to communities some in foot while some in vehicles. We got drain in our financial status, where we nearly give up. We realize there were some Judas in our communities reaching the community leaders to tarnish our image to lift up a self interested Islamic organization known as (AHGAGYI) which my fellow Muslims here know much about them. We then have to reach to the community leaders to show them some proof of pictures that shows how scouting is dominating in Islamic countries and having no knowledge about their new organization created in just few years ago. We gave them an approval letter from the Head Quarters to lift up trust between us and them. After using months in doing errands for the encroachment of scouting in our communities. We then humbly wait for their calls.
THE SUCCESS
Out of the communities we visited, one turned out to reach us. Very touching, they went further to say they lost my contact and the letter We brought to them. They have to look for a way to get in touched with us. Not too late about that the letter was found and they took the necessary approach to reach us. We were invited to meet some of the parents who wants their children to be part of the movement. We had memorable conversations where we explain into details to the parents. Then we proceed in starting the training with the young once. We believe scouting is learning by doing, so with the help of the scout handbook (progressive scheme), scouting become easy to teach and easy to learn. The youths developed a strange love for scouting to the extend, anything they are thought at the grounds they go ahead to teach their parents and the younger once in the households.
CONCLUSION
Scout Opening groups are hard to be created, it takes a lot of effort to bring it to existence. But when the step is taking, it’s become history forever. In all my scouting life I have believe in opening groups, a group that brings younger once together to achieve a common goal and be responsible in their society. We will keep up the hard work to bring back scouting on top of all organizations in Ghana. In God we trust and he knows best in our hearts.
Thank you.
